Mustang Mach-E: Over 48,000 of Ford's EV Recalled Due to Possible Battery Issue
Ford on Tuesday issued a recall for 48,924 Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles due to a possible battery malfunction. The issue could render the crossover unable to start or could lead to loss of power while in motion, according to CNBC, which earlier reported the recall.
This isn't the first safety recall Ford has issued for the Mach-E, but it is the largest so far. In 2021, Ford recalled more than 17,000 Mach-E vehicles due to potentially improperly attached windshields. Earlier this year, a software issue prompted Ford to recall 464 Mach-Es, less than 1% of the total vehicles affected by this most recent recall.
The nearly 49,000 recalled Mach-E crossovers include 2021 and 2022 models manufactured at Ford's Cuautitlan plant in Mexico between May 27, 2020, and May 24, 2022. The recall affects roughly half of the vehicles produced during that time.
A Ford spokesperson told CNET that a software update is expected to remedy the issue and is anticipated to be available over the air sometime next month. Owners also have the option of bringing their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealership to complete the software update.
